Multifunctional metal-organic frameworks : from academia to industrial applications

    Get PDF
After three decades of intense and fundamental research on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), is there anything left to say or to explain? The synthesis and properties of MOFs have already been comprehensively described elsewhere. It is time, however, to prove the nature of their true usability: technological applications based on these extended materials require development and implementation as a natural consequence of the up-to-known intensive research focused on their design and preparation. The current large number of reviews on MOFs emphasizes practical strategies to develop novel networks with varied crystal size, shape and topology, being mainly devoted to academic concerns. The present survey intends to push the boundaries and summarise the state-of-the-art on the preparation of promising (multi) functional MOFs in worldwide laboratories and their use as materials for industrial implementation. This review starts, on the one hand, to describe several tools and striking examples of remarkable and recent (multi) functional MOFs exhibiting outstanding properties (e.g., in gas adsorption and separation, selective sorption of harmful compounds, heterogeneous catalysis, luminescent and corrosion protectants). On the other hand, and in a second part, it intends to use these examples of MOFs to incite scientists to move towards the transference of knowledge from the laboratories to the industry. Within this context, we exhaustively review the many efforts of several worldwide commercial companies to bring functional MOFs towards the daily use, analysing the various patents and applications reported to date. Overall, this review goes from the very basic concepts of functional MOF engineering and preparation ending up in their industrial production on a large scale and direct applications in society

Évora Studies in the Philosophy and History of Science Volume Two From Ontology To Structure

    Get PDF
The structuralist approaches retake the war, characteristic of ancient Greek thought, between the partisans of matter and the ‘friends of ideas’, although they abandon the metaphysical and ontological issues, thus favouring the methodological aspects of knowledge, focusing on those functions which constitute and build up the worlds of human culture. The present volume contains the results of the seventh Évora International Symposium in Philosophy and History of Science and Technology, entitled “Structuralism: Roots, Plurality, and Contemporary debates” (2016)

An on-line teacher training course on education for sustainability: assessment of open (mooc) and closed versions of the course

    Get PDF
This paper reports the experience of a first edition of an on-line teacher training course on education for sustainability both for open (MOOC) and closed versions, and the respective assessment. The course was implemented by the Portuguese Distance Learning University (Universidade Aberta – UAb) under a protocol with the General Secretariat of Education and Science of the Portuguese State in an Open EdX platform (NAU). The results show that the planning, preparation of own materials suitable for the target audience and the validation of this type of open/massive and certified closed courses by different actors, before the course taking place is fundamental. It was also confirmed by the positive participation and feedback from the participants. In addition, the collaborative component in both course versions were fundamental to ensure success in this type of training actions. Differences in both versions were discussed as well as recommendations for future editions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The title compound [systematic name: (methoxycarbonylmethyl)ammonium chloride], crystallizes as a salt, C3H8NO2 +·Cl−, with the charged species interacting mutually via strong and highly directional N+—H⋯Cl− hydrogen bonds which lead to the formation of a supramolecular tape running parallel to the c axis. Tapes close pack in the solid state mediated by multipoint recognition synthons based on weak C—H⋯O interactions and van der Waals contacts between adjacent methyl groups

Paràmetres de rendiment de força mitjançant l’adopció de diferents seqüències d’exercicis durant sèries emparellades agonista-antagonista

Objectiu. Material i mètode.
